I can’t imagine too many things that are more spectacular or mind-boggling than to fly in a small aircraft over the delta. to see all this water in the middle of a desert is nothing short of a miracle. and then chances are good to see elephant, hippo, giraffe, and buffalo from above. it feels surreal – like in an “out of africa” movie. most of the lodges are on concession areas, surrounded by water or otherwise very difficult to reach by road. one great advantage to fly is that more time is available on the ground. often the flight transfers are no more than 10 –40 minutes. this way of experiencing botswana does also allow for complete freedom in creating your itinerary. just remember that botswana follows a low quantity/high-quality tourism policy – this means that the number of beds available is limited and in peak season (july – november) space is difficult to get by. so start planning early.
